2005 RESULTS
10-02-05 - Husets Speedway - National Cheaters Day Races - Finished 4th in the heat race. Started 5th in the feature and ended up 4th at the finish. Good race with not alot of passing. This was the last race for the 2005 season. Thanks to everyone who helped out this year.
9-18-05 - I-90 Speedway - Hartfords Cheaters Day Races - Final Day - Started outside the front row. Led every lap and won the feature by nearly 1/2 lap, lapped several cars enroute to the victory. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into Husets for their annual Cheaters Day races. This was my 3rd I-90 Cheaters Day Championship.
9-16-05 - I-90 Speedway - Hartfords Cheaters Day Races - Qualifying Day - Started 5th in the first qualifier and finished 3rd. Started 2nd in the next race and won it with ease. Need to make the car a little faster for the big feature on Sunday. Have a few things to try and need to tweak on the carb alittle bit. With these two finishes, we should have earned a good starting spot in Sunday "A" main race.
9-11-05 - Husets Speedway - Patriot race and season championship night. Started 5th in the heat race and was leading it by lap 2, very fast car again. Started the feature in 7th and work steadily thru the field, got to third and had a fast car and then the RR tire came apart on the last lap and ended up limping across the finish line in the 9th position.
9-09-05 - Rapid Speedway - Last to first in the heat race. Won heat race. Had a fast car in the feature but got behind a few slower guys on a hard to pass track. Finished 6th.
9-05-05 - Husets Speedway - Sertoma Charity race at Husets. 4th in the heat race. Started 12th in the feature and finished a strong 5th.
9-04-05 - Husets Speedway - Regular points night plus Nordstrom's 30 lap pit stop race! 5th in the heat race. Started 15th in the feature and had a nice run to finish 6th. In the annual Nordstrom's Pit Stop Race, I started in the 9th position for the 3 wide start. Got the car working really good on the bottom of the track and went into the pit stop portion of the race in the 3rd position. Came out the pit stop in the 7th position and then restarted 6th after the leader had mechanical problems. The bottom groove remained fast for me and we finished in the 2nd position. It was a great race, passed ALOT of cars tonite. Hopefully next year, we can get this race won.
9-02-05 - Rapid Speedway - NMRA Nationals at Rapid Speedway. Started 6th in feature and finished 5th. Went off the top of the track early and fell to last.
8-28-05 - Husets Speedway - Started 3rd in heat and went on to an easy win. Started 5th in the feature and worked the bottom of the track hard to get to 3rd early in the race. Side by side racing the last seven laps and then made the pass for the lead on the last lap around the speedway! Sure was nice seeing those double checkered flags waving at me coming out of turn 4! What a way to get the feature win at Husets!
8-26-05 - Rapid Speedway - Started and finished first in the heat race, totally domination as had a huge lead after the short 6 lap race. Started on the pole for the feature with high hopes of a win, however, it was not to be tonite as the car had a horrible push and fell to 3rd early and held on and finished 3rd in the feature. The tacky track surface for the feature was not what the car liked and we just missed the setup a bunch. Learned something for next time.
8-21-05 - Husets Speedway - Started 2nd in the heat race and won it by a large margin. Started 3th in the feature and got to 2nd early then lost the power steering, hung on for a nice 3rd place finish.
8-19-05 - Rapid Speedway - I missed this race, however, thanks to Eric Moser for running the #6 number so I could maintain some points. Thanks Eric!
8-14-05 - Husets Speedway - Started 6th in heat and finished 6th. Started 16th in feature and DNF in feature. Got caught up in someone else's wreck along with about 4 other cars. Ripped the right side of the body nearly off, but nothing major wrong with the car.
8-12-05 - Rapid Speedway - Started 4th in heat and won by a good margin. Started 8th in feature and finished 5th. The race had no cautions. Will miss the race next week at Rock Rapids.
8-05-05 - Rapid Speedway - Started 2nd in the heat race and dominated the race with a big win. Started 3rd in the feature and led every lap for the first feature win of the year! Had some great racing with the 23, 27 and had to hold off the 11k on the last 2 lap restart. Car and motor were great. Had found a problem this week with the ignition system that caused an out of the corner stumble last weekend. Nice to finally get this first win under the belt.
7-31-05 - Husets Speedway - Started 7th in the heat race and finished 5th. Started 14th in the A feature and had another great run to get up to 5th. These poor starting spots at Husets are getting old in a hurry. Will miss the next week at Husets due to work. Should be able to make most of the remaining races there.
7-29-05 - Rapid Speedway - Started at the rear of my heat due to missing the week before, finished 3rd in heat. Started 2nd in the A feature and led the first 11 or 12 laps, finished 2nd, was a good race considering the engine was run for the first time since rebuild and a new fuel system was being tested out. Car had a slight miss out of the corner.
7-17-05 - Husets Speedway - Had a tire/wheel problem in the heat race and dropped out. Had to run the dreaded "B" feature for the first time this year. Started 5th and was leading the race by lap 2, went on to win by half a straightaway. Started 16th in the "A" feature and had a great run!! Ended up in the 4th position at the checkereds. Passed more cars than anyone else tonite. Another nite when a little better starting position would have been nice. Will miss next week as the engine is getting freshened. Currently 6th in points out of 35 cars, but that will fall quickly now with missing a race.
7-15-05 - Rapid Speedway - Won heat race by a bunch. Started 6th in feature and had a great race, got to second by lap 5 or so and then caught the leader, car #23, who started in the 3rd spot. The #6 was a little quicker tonite and it was just a matter of finding a way around him, then on lap 10, the rearend gears locked up and the end result was a DNF. Bummer again. Just having terrible luck at Rapid Speedway this year. Will miss next week as the engine is getting freshened and I need to get together another set of gears. Currently 4th in points but that will fall quickly now with missing a race.
7-10-05 - Husets Speedway - 5th in heat race . Started 15th in feature and after many restarts and cautions, I ended up with a fast car running the bottom groove and finished in 6th place. Good run considering the poor starting spot.
7-08-05 - Rapid Speedway - 3rd in heat. DNF in feature. Started 6th and was running third with a fast car when an alcohol fuel fire broke out, caused by a fitting that worked loose. Bummer.
7-04-05 - Husets Speedway - 4th in heat. 9th in feature. Again had a right rear tire going down, it went flat with 5 laps to go, restarted 16th and ended up 9th.
7-03-05 - Husets Speedway - 4th in heat. 10th in feature. Had a right rear tire that was nearly flat after the feature.
7-01-05 - Rapid Speedway - Won heat. 3rd in the feature. Very dry track.
6-28-05 - Husets Speedway - World of Outlaws night. Finished 2nd in heat race and 2nd in the feature. So close again to winning the feature. Great race with lots of side by side racing with the 00 car.
6-26-05 - Husets Speedway - 5th in heat and went from 15th to 7th in the feature. Decent run, just started way to far back in the field.
6-24-05 - Rapid Speedway - 4th in heat race and 7th in feature. Nothing to brag about it.
6-19-05 - Husets Speedway - Black Betty got us to the track again but I wish I would have stayed home. A first lap heat race pile up caused by a rookie, ended up tearing most of the front and right side off the car. I still ended up with a 3rd place finish and the car was very fast. Started way back in 12th position for the feature and made it a half of a lap before I got hammered in the door by a car who was trying to win on the first lap and that sent me HARD into the wall and that ended this night very early. There is a bunch of damage to the front and rear suspension, the front and rear bumpers are destroyed, 2 wheels bent, 2 shocks broke and 1 tire ripped, and basically not much of a body left. I'm not sure if it will be ready by this Friday or not. On a really bad streak in the middle of June.
6-17-05 - Rapid Speedway - Wow, what a crappy night! Transmission in the suburban sprung a leak on the way to the track. Luckily, we were close to Luverne and were able to get ahold of Black Betty (Anthonys truck) and continue on our way. Heat race action was good, went from last to second in a hurry and then coming out of turn 4 for the checkered the rear end gears locked up, coasted in with a 3rd place finish. Got the spare set of gears in and made it out for the feature, started 9th and finished 9th. Tried some new things chassis wise, which did not work, also found a major problem with the carb after the race.
6-12-05 - Husets Speedway - DNF in heat race, oil pump shaft broke. Rain ended the program early and there will be double features next week, I may be able to use a provisional and start the make up feature from the rear of the field. Stay tuned....
6-10-05 - Rapid Speedway - 2nd in heat race. 3rd in the feature after starting 7th. Decent run on a very heavy track.
6-07-05 - I-90 Speedway, Hartford, SD - The Annual Street Stock Nationals - Won the first qualifier. Started 9th in the second qualifier and finished a strong 3rd place. In the $1000 to win main feature, started 3rd and car was not handling good, race should have called the Baja 500, the track was so rough and in terrible condition, ran in the top 5 all race until the engine shut off without warning with 4 laps to go, I got pushed in the pits and pit crew seen that a piece of mud hit the main cut-off switch and turned the car off! Fired it back up and went from 12th to 5th place in the last 4 laps. It was nice to get back to top 5 at the end. After the race, we seen where the left jack bolt came undone and took all the LR bite out of the car, that explained the poor handling in the feature.
6-05-05 - Husets Speedway - Won heat race easily. Started 5th in feature and finished a very strong 3rd. Qualified for the Nordstrom's pit stop race at the years end. Car was wicked fast, too bad the track was one groove.
6-03-05 - Rapid Speedway - Rained out again.
5-30-05 - Husets Speedway - Memorial Day Special. 2nd in heat race and finished 4th in the feature. Great racing all race long. Fast and tough racing at Husets with 23-25 cars every night.
5-29-05 - Husets Speedway - 5th in heat race after getting the fenders and nose ripped off. Started 15th in the feature and got involved in someone else's crash and retired early from the race.
5-27-05 - Rapid Speedway - Won the heat race after starting 3rd and started 5th in the feature and finished 4th. Led a few laps early and was great racing with the #1 and the #11K cars. Still trying to get the car to handle better at Rapid Speedway.
5-22-05 - Husets Speedway - 3rd in the heat and started 7th in the feature and finished a strong 4th place, currently setting in second place in the point standings at Husets. That may be short lived however, due to having to work a few Sundays nites.
5-20-05 - Rapid Speedway - 2nd in heat race and 7th in the feature, struggled with the new car on a very dry slick track
5-15-05 - Husets Speedway - 4th in heat, started 6th in the feature and finished a very strong 2nd place. Copied from the Husets website: "In a great Late Model Stock Car feature, the fans witnessed the top two cars racing literally door to door with just a couple of laps remaining. Gary Brown, Jr. raced from eleventh to the lead in just eight laps. The race was far from over though as Rick VanderWeide took second on lap nine and then set his sights on the leader. Brown was running his traditional high groove and that allowed VanderWeide to use the short way around the track to make it a dead even race for the lead. Brown then moved to the bottom groove and closed the door on VanderWeide and the rest of the field. Brown went on for his twenty-fifth career win at Huset’s Speedway. VanderWeide was second with Darrin Korthals driving from tenth to third."
5-13-05 - Rapid Speedway - Too cold and wet. cancelled!
5-08-05 - Husets Speedway - Engine finally running better. Fuel pressure problems seem fixed. 5th in heat and started 12th in feature and finished 7th. Good solid run with no problems.
5-06-05 - Rapid Speedway - Won heat race with motor still running crappy. Was up to 4th early in the feature when #87 tagged me going into turn 1 and I got turned around and hit the inside berm and rolled it over! What a way to start the year! Scored in 11th place.
5-01-05 - Husets Speedway - Way too cold!! Cancelled.
4-29-05 - Rapid Speedway - First time out in new car. Dropped out of my heat race with fuel pressure problems. Started 13th in the feature and ended up 4th. Good run consider motor not running right.
